Nature recovery
Biodiversity, the variety of life and essential natural systems that sustain it, is in crisis in the UK, one of the most nature-depleted countries globally.
These systems regulate environmental processes, impact air, water, and food, and underpin our economy, culture, and wellbeing.

At Clarion, we recognise our responsibility as a landlord and through Latimer, our development arm, to support nature's recovery across our communities.
Nature is vital for residents, contributing to community wellbeing and placemaking. A Clarion resident shared, “Green spaces induce calmness, reconnect individuals with nature, and enhance mental health, especially for those in cities with limited access to green areas.”
In 2024, we launched our Nature Recovery Strategy, focusing on biodiversity, wellbeing, placemaking, and climate resilience. The strategy prioritises ecosystem services that benefit environmental health and community resilience. Key objectives include delivering Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) exceeding the mandatory 10% for new developments, with an ambitious 20% uplift. For existing neighbourhoods, we aim for a voluntary 10% BNG increase in up to five communities annually.
Through these initiatives, we aim to protect and enhance the natural environment while improving the health and wellbeing of our residents and communities.
